Rape of the Consumer">Rape of the Consumer
It started with the credit card companies and has spread to mortgage companies, drug companies, and insurance companies. The message is clear – “If you regulate us, we will raises our prices.” It is unmitigated rape of the consumer by large and powerful companies.
Credit card companies raised their rates prior to the law going into effect that regulated such behavior. The message was – “Screw the consumer now, while we still can. Make the consumer pay for forcing us to be honest.” The only solution is for consumer rebellion against credit cards. Pay cash and let the luxuries slide until you can pay cash. Getting out of debt is like losing weight, you have to change your behavior. In the end, the rate increases may provide the necessary stimulus to change behavior.
Why are drug companies allowed to get away with raising prices on certain drugs commonly used by seniors, in prior to the passage of the health care bill on the presumption that the final bill would adversely impact their profits? Insurance companies are raising their rates prior to the law going into effect. Both are acting like the credit card companies. Make the consumer pay for forcing us to be honest. After all, insurance is only for the healthy low-risk person, who will maximize our bottom line. If insurance companies have done such a good job managing our health care, why is the quality of our health going down?
We blame the government for these problems, because the credit card companies, banks, drug companies, and insurance companies want us to. Their lobbyists are buying your opinion. It is easier to blame the government, than to blame the real culprits. How did all this happen? Merger after merger has led us back to monopolies that seek to be as strong as our government. They want to rule our lives. To make use their serfs. Wha they forget is that it is the consumer who makes them who they are. With no consumers, they are nothing.
